A salon-neat manicure at home is mostly about doing the steps in the right order and keeping every coat thin. Here’s the routine we use for short nails.
The routine
- Remove old polish completely; wash and dry your hands.
- Trim if needed, then file in one direction to your shape.
- Compare both hands so every nail is the same length.
- Soften cuticles with a cuticle remover or warm water, then push back gently. Don’t cut live skin.
- Buff lightly, only to smooth ridges.
- Wipe each nail clean so no oil or dust is left.
- Apply a thin base coat.
- Apply two thin coats of colour.
- Cap the free edge: run the brush along the tip.
- Apply top coat, capping the tip again.
- Clean up the edges with a small brush dipped in remover.
- Let it dry fully, then finish with cuticle oil and hand cream.
Tip: Thin coats dry faster and chip less than one thick coat. If a coat looks streaky, the next thin coat will fix it.
